A farewell
tea was held on April 18, 2004 for Laurie Kaplan, a “general favourite”
speaker at our birthday parties, professor of English at Goucher College
and editor of Persuasions, The Jane Austen Journal. Laurie and her husband
are moving to Yorkshire. Laurie gave a lecture entitled, “No Mud—no
Weeds—no slimey rocks”; Seascapes and the Ephemeral in Jane
Austen’s Last Novel.
